Soulrelic - Interview with Tommy Suomala
Soulrelic from hailing Finland are yet another band to raise the throne of Gothic-Metal. There are good chances that SOULRELIC will displace bands like for example HIM,Charon or Negative from their “Headliner-position” in this genre. Visions Underground were able to get into contact with Tommy Suomala, SOULRELIC´s man at the mic to talk about their music, their plans ... so go on and read yourself ...

Visions Underground: In Germany you are not that vell-known yet, so could you introduce your music to the German readers ?
Tommy: Soulrelic was formed back in 2003 by Jay Hölli, the keyboardist. He started to look for suitable members for the band and found Antza Talala, the guitarist, who knew the rest of us. And here we are, playing some sort of melodic rock-metal with some gothic influences.
Visions Underground: After having listened to a few of your samples, i recognized that there is a certain similarity to the music of your collegues of Sentenced, Charon or Entwine. What would you say distinguishes you from them and what makes you special among this huge mass of the bands of this genre ?
Tommy: I really can´t say what makes us any more special than the other bands. We just tried to do as good album as we could and I think we succeeded in that. Check us out and whether you love or hate us, it´s up to you.
Visions Underground: Last year you were on tour with To/Die/For in Germany. How did you like it ?
Tommy: It was a nice experience. We were so green, so the tour taught us a lot. We came pretty close with To/Die/For and Das Scheit (the German band touring with us), and we still stay in touch. It was also nice to see that we already had few fans in there, and I hope we made a few new ones.
Visions Underground: In Germany bands like HIM, Negative or The Rasmus became quite popular. Do you intend to also jump on that train or is a carrer outside Finland not planed yet ?
Tommy: We´ve turned our backs towards the wind, and let it take us wherever it wants. In music business nothing can be planned. You just try to do the best you can, and the rest is left with destiny.
Visions Underground: Some of you also play in other bands. How do you prioritize ? Do Soulrelic have priority or is it more like a project or are all bands equal to one another ?
Tommy: Soulrelic is not a project. To me it´s the only band, but we try to make things work as well as possible with the other involvements.
Visions Underground: You put out your first CD lately. Why, in your opinion, should one buy it ? This is the place where you can do some commercial.
Tommy: Because we are so poor, and need the money for beer.
Visions Underground: Your last words.....
Tommy: I´ve had it with the winter. I´m going to book a flight to hell. It´s never cold down there.
Visions Underground: Thank you, Tommy, for taking the time to talk to us. We wish you all the best.
